Strategic Program for Social Implementation and Global Deployment

This program focuses on technology domains where Japan has strengths (Note 1) and implements the following “Business Strategy Support Type” and “Common Network Infrastructure Technology Establishment Type” R&D projects to achieve social implementation and overseas deployment. As a general rule, this program targets R&D that aims to achieve a certain level of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) (Note 2) within a certain period of time (Note 3).

  • Note 1: For the time being, the three priority target technologies ((1) technologies related to all-optical networks, (2) technologies related to non-terrestrial networks, and (3) technologies related to secure virtualization and integrated networks) indicated in the Beyond 5G interim report are assumed.
  • Note 2: For information on TRL, refer to the Appendix of the Fund Management Policy for Innovative ICT Fund Projects for Beyond 5G/6G (December 25, 2023)
  • Note 3: For example, this program targets R&D that aims to achieve level 6 of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) within 4 years, and level 7 of TRL within 5 years.

Business Strategy Support Type:
This program mainly supports for R&D projects with strategies and commitments for social implementation and overseas expansion, with a focus on technologies in the competitive domains of individual companies.
In principle, the program is implemented as a grant project. The grant rate is expected to be a maximum of 1/2 of the total amount of projects implemented under this program. And the scale of support per project (national expenditure) is expected to be around several billion yen per year.

Common Network Infrastructure Technology Establishment Type:
Technologies in cross-industry common basic domains or cooperative domains necessary for rapid social implementation and overseas expansion, which are, in principle, clearly stated in government documents as to be implemented by the government.
The program is implemented as a commissioned project. And the scale of support per project is expected to be a maximum of around several billion yen per year.
